Concept Completed project ZACHS HILLEL HOUSE As part of its comprehensive effort to enrich and diversify the intellectual and cultural life of the College, Trinity is committed to fostering the growth of the Jewish community on campus. The College has complemented its efforts to revitalize Trinity Hillel with the construction of a new, $2-million Hillel facility on campus. Prominently located near our other cultural houses on Vernon Street, the Zachs Hillel House offers the Jewish community at Trinity an important cultural and spiritual center on campus that enhances the vital and vibrant cultural life of the College. Groundbreaking occurred on schedule in the fall of 2000, and the project was completed and formally opened in December 2001. |

Trinity's new Hillel facility includes space for public meetings, guest lectures, informal gatherings, kosher meals, and worship. The College also co-sponsors yearly lectures and film festivals with the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center, and has established internships with a variety of Jewish organizations, such as the Connecticut Jewish Historical Society. |

The Hillel Endowment Fund, established in 1992, provides a unique opportunity for Trinity alumni, parents, and community members to support Hillel activities at the College. The Hillel Endowment has grown steadily since its inception and income from the fund presently supports a portion of Hillels annual budget. As the fund is strengthened, it will provide support for a broader range of programs and events and will guarantee the continuity and expansion of current programming. This includes Shabbat services, Jewish holiday celebrations and commemorations, and other social and religious activities. |

THE JEWISH STUDIES PROGRAM |
|
| In the spring of 1998, Trinity established a major in Jewish studies, a secular, multi-disciplinary investigation of Jewish civilization from its ancient Near Eastern origins through contemporary life in Israel and the diaspora communities around the world. The program builds on the College’s longstanding strengths in Jewish studies and provides students with truly exceptional learning opportunities, including study-abroad in Israeli and Palestinian studies at the Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. A waiver is required due to U.S. State Department travel advisories for this area. |
