Soil samples from the site were taken before the crops were planted, a few weeks after the crops were planted, and after the plants were harvested. To collect soil samples, we place an instrument known as an agar into the ground.  Soil is pushed inside of the agar, where it collects. When enough soil is collected, it is removed form the agar and placed inside of a zip lock bag and labeled. This may sound simple but depending on the land you are working on, it can be very difficult. We learned this the hard way as can be seen from the following pictures.

The above pictures were taken before the planting of the crops and before the soil was tilled.
