Yes, the answer to this question lies in a new technology: phytoremediation. Phytoremediation is the removal of toxins and or heavy metals from soil with the use of plants. Scientists at Phytotech Inc. have found some plants such as the Indian Mustard plant, that can efficiently concentrate lead. Lead absorbed though the roots of the plant and incorporated into the stem and leaves of the plant. This method is considerably cheaper and is less labor intensive than current methods.
