Why the need for a Safe Zone Program at Trinity?
• Unlike more visible underrepresented groups, lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender persons cannot be readily identified. Likewise, there is no easy method of identifying supportive or hostile persons on gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues. Thus people new to the community often experience isolation and loneliness because of the inability to identify an empathetic and supportive community. Even locating simple information can become risky and logistically difficult because of few open networks, directories, and resources.

• Safe Zones has been created to respond to the needs of the Trinity community. The goal of the program is to provide a more hospitable environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) persons by establishing an identifiable group of supportive persons who can provide support, information, and a safe haven for GLBT persons within the Trinity community.
