"Reality" the product of many processes whose operations are invisible or so taken-for-granted as to be beneath notice. In a series of lab exercises we will try to expose some of these processes and understand them. Topics include basic visual perception, the distorting lenses of memory and telling, the impact of literacy on the depiction of events, the unseen influences of institutional discrimination on the perception of class, the manipulations of imagery and language in mass media, the construction of virtual reality, and others.
