After Columbus arrived in the Caribbean in 1492 new societies resulted from colonialism and resistance to it. Colonialism endured in the Americas well into the 20th century. Belize secured its Independence from Britain in 1981! Various approaches for making sense of this important process in global history are available now. This course employs two innovative approaches to these issues. First, perspectives from sciences, mathematics, and medicine will be fundamental to class discussions.
