Information Literacy Standards (Condensed Version)
(Condensed Version of Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education, Association of College and Research Libraries, 2000)

 
  1. Present information effectively for a specific purpose
     
  • Identifies the purpose, audience and format of the presentation (e.g. research papers, poster sessions, web sites, oral presentations, creative productions)
  • Extracts and summarizes the main themes and statements to be presented
  • Organizes the arguments and data to support the presentation
  • Integrates collected information, which may include quotations and paraphrasing
  • Uses technical vocabulary accurately and clarifies it for the audience
  • Chooses appropriate technologies for the display of information
  • Utilizes digital text, images, and data and reformats them into a new context, as needed
  • Uses uncertainty analysis/discussion for research/measurement oriented presentations, or discussion of alternative design considerations for design oriented presentations
  • Asks for feedback on early versions of the presentation and integrates revisions
  • Communicates clearly and in a style appropriate for the intended audience

For oral presentations:

  • Practices delivery and timing of the presentation

  • Maintains eye contact with the audience and avoids reading a script

  • Knows the background of the audience and anticipates questions

  • Answers questions clearly and directly

  • Reinforces important points through skillful reiteration and summary

  • Makes effective use of audio-visual materials and hand-outs
