  1. Collect Information Effectively and Efficiently

  • Selects most appropriate investigative method (e.g., laboratory experiment, simulation, fieldwork, literature search)
  • Investigates the scope, content, and organization of information systems and tools
  • Develops a research plan appropriate to the investigative methods
  • Uses a variety of services to retrieve the needed information (e. g., libraries, electronic resources, professional organizations and research offices; community resources; experts and practitioners)
  • Assesses quantity, quality and relevance of the search results and refines search strategy as necessary
  • Extracts, records and organizes the information and its sources using appropriate technologies
