Theatrical Event 1: Capitalistic Acts Between Consenting Adults- An adaptation of Aldus Huxley's Brave New World, it is an extension of the 1931 prediction of a society composed of cloned babies, medicated citizens, and technological deities. Devised and directed by Mara Lieberman and MItchell Polin (Trinity College Department of Theater and Dance). Performances were on November 1, 2, and 3, 2001.
This theatrical event explored one of the possible futures of a society driven by science, technology, and consumerism. The play explores such concepts as productivity with technology, using drugs to control our cognitive function, the everyday presence of advertisement in our lives, and the rapidly changing world of technology. Of course, a focus on the use and misuse of language, to add a bit of an Orwellian touch.
