The Portuguese Club of Trinity College Constitution Preamble The Portuguese Club of Trinity College shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Trinity College and Student Government Association.
Article I Name The name of this organization shall be the Portuguese Club of Trinity College.
Article II Purpose The purpose of this organization shall be to promote and gain a better understanding of the cultures of the Portuguese speaking world and to introduce them to the Trinity College community.
Article III Membership Section 1. Membership is open to any Trinity College student who:
Section 2. Membership in the Portuguese Club shall not be denied because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, physical or mental disability.
Article IV Officers Section 1. The officers of the Portuguese Club shall consist of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. These officers make up the Executive Board. Section 2. The duties of the officers shall be as follows:
Section 3. The president and the treasurer, as well as the advisor, have signatory power over the organizations account. There must be 2 signatures for every transaction. Section 4. The term of the officer shall be from September 1 to May 1. Section 5. Impeachment of Officers: Any officer may be removed from membership in The Portuguese Club by a two-thirds vote of the Executive Board. Any officer removed may appeal to the general membership. Said officer shall be considered reinstated with two-thirds approval of the members.
Article V- Elections Section 1. Election of officers shall be held during the month of April. At least three weeks notice shall be given before the election meeting. Nominations shall be initiated from the floor and elections shall be done by ballot. The person receiving majority vote will be elected. Section 2. The person receiving majority vote will be elected. Section 3. Election of officers is to be made by members. Section 4. Prerequisites for seeking an officer:
Section 5. Any vacancy that may occur in an office shall be filled by an appointment by the remaining members of the Executive Board pending ratification at the next group meeting.
Article VI-Committees Section 1. The Portuguese Club shall review and appoint necessary committees for the new school year during the period of September 1 to October 1 of the school year.
Article VII- Advisor Section 1. The Portuguese Club will have one advisor selected by the organization. Section 2. Duties of the advisor shall be:
Section 3. Removal of Advisor: An advisor may be removed from his or her position by a unanimous vote of the Executive Board. The advisor may appeal to the general membership. Said advisor shall be considered reinstated with two-thirds vote of the members of The Portuguese Club.
Article VIII- Meetings Section 1. Regular meetings will be held every other Tuesday at 8pm starting on the Tuesday of the second full week of classes. Section 2. At least four days notice shall be given for each regular meeting of the organization. Section 3. Executive Board shall convene 15 minutes prior to general membership meetings. Section 4. Special or Emergency meetings may be called with less than two days notice by Executive Board. Section 5. The meetings shall include a quorum, order of business and disposition of minutes.
Article IX- Amendments Procedures and Requirements Section 1. The Executive Board or any active member at a general club meeting may propose a resolution or amendment. Section 2. Resolutions and amendments shall be discussed at the meeting in which they are brought up and voted upon in the following meeting. Section 3. The resolution may be suspended by a two-thirds vote of present membership.
