Dear Trinity College Student Government Association,
We are the Men Of Color Alliance, better known as MOCA. We are a student organization that strives itself on community service, acceptance, tolerance, and diversity. We are open to all students on campus. Our executive board itself is composed of males and females of all races.
The spring of 2003 was a challenging year for MOCA: we had to rebuild MOCA, and we were successful. Our organization went from a 2-member organization to become a widely recognized organization.
Last semester MOCA was nominated by the State of Connecticut for the “Outstanding Achievement for Community Service and Leadership” Award! The Office of Civic Engagement and Community Service gave awards out to many of our members for their community service efforts during our “High School Tour”. MOCA hosted a “Men of Color” Conference this past semester with 8 schools from all over the country in attendance. MOCA hosted a very successful “Hip Hop Nite” that drew a crowd of over 250 people from the Hartford community, Trinity community and also other colleges. We also had “Arcade Nite” at the LVL house that helped bring in people who had never been inside one of the cultural houses before. We had a DVD and a Music Album created by our members! We throw an annual Women’s Appreciation Dinner that awarded women for their outstanding efforts here at Trinity College. We also threw a “UNITY” Dinner with people from all over the campus in attendance, including Dean of Students Office, LVL, IMANI, Posse, LVL, Psi U, MOCA, AASA and many other faculty and administration.
We are an organization that is very active in the Trinity and Hartford communities. However, all of these events could not have been possible without the help of our members and some financial assistance. Some of these programs are not cheap. Last semester we struggled to get every bit and piece of the pie we can from any department that was able to give us some. Last year we lived off a dream and an idea. This year we live off of a solid past and foundation, a past that witnessed a spark of energy at Trinity College that has not been seen in ages. We are an organization that is moving forward, not backwards. We seek to make Trinity College a better place for people of all walks of life.
We have many things planned for this year and will do everything in our power to make them happen. Enclosed are some documents to help you understand more about MOCA. Please feel free to contact us at moca_trinity@hotmail.com.
Much Respect, Narin Prum Co-Chair Of MOCA
