Park Avenue Trinity Center for Neighborhoods Artists Collective Two programs are available through the Artists Collective this summer:
Capitol Region Education Council A summer program called EQUAL (Educational Quality through Understanding and Learning) is available at Bulkeley High School for students entering 5th through 9th grades. The program runs Monday through Friday, 9AM to 2:30PM, July 8th through August 2nd. There are three different morning programs and a variety of afternoon activities. Tuition is $100 per student and $50 for a second student in the same family. A third student in a family attends free of charge. Free transportation is provided from as close to home as possible. A limited number of scholarships are available. For further information and registration, call 524-4014. City of Hartford Parks and Recreation Swim programs are available for 3-week sessions. Skill levels range from beginner to advanced. The sessions meet Monday through Friday. The times depend on the skill level. There are two sessions scheduled: Session I is from July 1 to July 26, Session II from July 29 to August 23. For information, call 722-6499 or 722-6505. Camp Courant This is a summer camp for 2,500 Hartford children, ages 5-12. Camp begins on July 1st and closes August 15th. Camp activities include swimming, arts and crafts, woodworking, computers, sports, games, dancing, and much more. Bus transportation is available. Buses leave at 8:30AM and return between 3PM and 3:30PM. For information and registration call 241-3795. Hartford Neighborhood Centers HNC operates the Hi Hoti day camp for children ages 5-13. Programs include remedial education, cultural performing arts, arts and crafts, computer awareness training,, dance, dramatic arts, and swimming. Fees include daily transportation to the camp. Camp program hours are 7:30AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday. Three summer sessions are available: July 8th - July 19th; July 22nd to August 2nd; and August 12th to August 23rd. The cost per 3-week session is $190 and registration fee is $10. A limited number of scholarships of $100 are available. For information and registration call 251-6517. Hispanic Health Council A summer program is available from July 8th to August 16st. The hours are 2:30 to 5PM, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Activities include theater, painting, baseball, and tennis. For more information, call Omar Rivera at 522-0856, ext. 257. Mi Casa A summer camp is available at the Maria Sanchez School from July 8th to August 9th for 10-17 year olds. The program operates Monday - Friday from 2PM to 8PM. Activities include art, basketball, dance, mimic, and volleyball For information and registration, call 522-5222. Police Athletic League This is a place where kids can engage in safe activities. Program activities include boxing, basketball, golf, and educational activities such as reading, tutoring, and peer involvement. In addition, the PAL runs programs such as the Explorer Program, designed to give young people with an interest in law enforcement a chance to find out more about it. There are also links to camping, summer jobs programs, and field trips. Summer hours vary, but center around daytime activities. For more information, contact Marc Rubera at 722-8006. South End Night Riders This is a year-round program which includes tutoring, computers, trips, swimming, and basketball. Hours are Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 4-9PM and Sundays from 2-7PM. For further information, call 278-6678. Trinity College Several programs are available through Trinity College this summer:
YMCA Camp Downtown runs from June 24th through August 16th for children ages 6-12. The camp meets Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 4:30PM. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Activities include aerobics classes, arts and crafts, swimming and swimming lessons, academic enrichment programs, sports, fields trips, theme days, and special events. The fee is $55 per week. Scholarships are available. For information and registration, call 522-4183. YWCA The YWCA operates Camp Aya-Po for children age 5 to 14 from July 1st to August 23rd. This is a day camp at Somers, CT and runs from 9AM -4PM, Monday through Friday. Buses leave from the corner of Broad Street and Farmington Avenue at 7:55AM and return by 5PM. Programs include all sports, swimming, hiking, boating, archery, arts and crafts, and Native American programs. The cost per 2-week session is $220. Some scholarships are available.
