9:30 AM     Keynote presentation: Counseling the Culturally Diverse by Dr. Charles R. Martinez, Jr., Clinical Psychologist and Interim Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity at the University of Oregon
Since 1999 Martinez has directed the Oregon Prevention Research Center's Latino Research Team (LRT) in collaboration with partners from Centro LatinoAmericano, and the local Latino community. One of the main functions of the LRT is to provide cross cultural methodological consultation to OSLC and other prevention researchers. He has extensive experience providing clinical and prevention services to diverse populations. He has published numerous methodological and substantive papers related to general cultural issues in prevention and preventative intervention effects for families coping with difficult life circumstances. Dr. Martinez received a B.A. from Pitzer College, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the California School of Professional Psychology.

                   session(s) and involvement of collaborating offices

3:00 PM   Black and Latino Males: Discussions on outreach to and service for under-represented student groups

by Dr.Suraiya Baluch, Director of SHARE at Princeton University.
Prior to her appointment as director of Princeton's Sexual Harassment/Assault Advising, Resources and Education (SHARE)
office, Ms. Baluch was affiliated with the counseling center at Barnard College, as a staff psychologist, and was named associate director in February 2004. She also served as a clinical supervisor for Columbia and Barnard's Rape Crisis/Anti-Violence Support Center and as an adviser to Columbia's Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Program. Suraiya holds bachelor's degrees in psychology and religion from Rutgers University, a master's degree in psychological counseling from Columbia and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Fordham University.             

2:00 PM     Breakout groups by college, discuss effective collaboration in serving the needs of underrepresented students.  How can current patterns of communication or lack of communication be changed to achieve effective collaboration?

3:30 PM     Reconvene to share strategies developed by college teams
