Black & Latino Males
Conference

NOVEMBER 9-11, 2007

hosted by
Swarthmore College
Swarthmore, PA

The focus of the working group is: 1) establishing and strengthening Black and Latino male student organizations that promote student leadership, 2) promoting peer student support models and programs, 3) promoting faculty-student connections and 4) establishing community service programs involving Black and Latino male students.  The campus teams will learn from each other’s strengths and experiences and will examine their own campus efforts, resources and strategies for strengthening their Black and Latino male student communities.  They will then come out of the conference with a set of program ideas, plans and strategies for implementation
The purpose of this conference will be for teams of students, faculty and administrators from each campus to develop or share the results of  the strategies and action plans for their campuses to enhance the success and satisfaction of Black and Latino male students.
The idea behind this effort is to have each of these teams return to their respective campuses with clear strategies and actions to implement, improve and strengthen these programs in their campuses.

We invite you to be a part of this conference by sending a team of representatives that should include:

1) a faculty member (preferably someone who has some influence with his peers and who is engaged with student life in general and with Black and Latino male students in particular),

2) an administrator (preferably someone with responsibilities for student retention working with students of color) and

3) two students (ideally one Black and one Latino) preferably those involved with student organizations on campus and especially with Black and Latino male students. You’re free to send a fewer number of people, but we urge you to send at least two (a faculty member or administrator and a student leader).
