Drawing from Masterpieces (ROME 120)

An introduction to drawing from masterpieces of sculpture, painting, architecture, and mosaic, with emphases on observation, technique, interpretation, and aesthetic emotions. With Rome’s museums and cityscape of ruins and monuments as our studio, we will focus on the human figure, monumental forms, vantage points, choices of significant details, methods of composition, and techniques of linear and tonal drawing. Subjects may include Michelangelo’s Moses, Bernini’s David, Titian’s Sacred and Profane Love, Caravaggio’s Judith and Holofernes, Bramante’s Tempietto, ruins in the Roman Forum, and the black and white mosaics at Ostia Antica.

Cost of supplies: Approx. $150.

Enrollment is limited to 15 students.
