The
Trinity Papers
Volume 21
2001-2002
Twenty-one years ago, the Faculty and Administration of Trinity
College suggested that Presidents Fellows undertake the
publication of a journal to recognize outstanding undergraduate
scholarship. As a result, The Trinity Papers, an annual
collection of student writing, has become a long-standing
tradition. A select group of Presidents Fellows comprises
the Editorial Board and judges the submissions anonymously every
year, choosing the best submissions to appear in that years
edition of The Trinity Papers.
This year, the Papers recognizes the work of students not only in
the written medium, but also in the artwork that we have chosen
for the cover. The Buddhist prayer flag, a symbol of
thoughtfulness and understanding, helps represent the values that
a liberal arts education strives to instill in every student, and
the collection of papers assembled within this volume are a
testament to the breadth of a Trinity education. We publish these
works with the hope that they will continue to inspire new
avenues of thought in all readers.
The Editors would like to
dedicate this volume to those
in the Trinity community who
have been affected by the
events of September 11, 2001.
