SANDELL SINKS SEAHAWKS
FOR TRINITY MEN’S SOCCER

Hartford, Conn. - Senior co-captain forward Morgan Sandell (Cohasset, Mass.) scored two unassisted goals, including the game-winner with 36 seconds left in the second 10-minute overtime, to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 2-1 win over the Salve Regina University Seahawks in men’s soccer this afternoon. Trinity snaps a three-game losing streak, all overtime defeats, to improve to 5-5-1, while the Seahawks drop to 7-10-1.

Sandell kicked the ball backwards over his head while facing away from the goal, and the ball found the net after it had deflected off a Salve Regina player. Bantam junior midfielder Jared Rubin (Wellesley, Mass.) sent the ball into the box on across from the left side.

After a scoreless first half, the Seahawks scored on a goal by sophomore midfielder Joe Mastropietro (Smithfield, R.I.) in the 65th minute. The Bantams answered 3:30 later when Sandell booted a direct kick into the upper left corner of the net to tie the score at 1-1.

Bantam sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Burns (Minnetonka, Minn.) made seven saves, including two in the second overtime, to earn the victory. Senior Jason Keough (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Matthew Michel (West Haven, Conn.) combined for seven saves in a losing effort for Salve Regina.
