TRINITY MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO
MIDDLEBURY IN NESCAC FIRST ROUND

Middlebury, Vermont - Senior forward Kyle Dezotell (Newport, Vt.) recorded a goal and an assist, msetting a new school record for career goals, to lead the Middlebury College Panthers to a 5-1 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in the first round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Soccer Championship Tournament this afternoon.

Trinity, seeded No. 6 in the tournament, finishes the season with a 7-7-1 record, while the Panthers improve to 9-3-3. Middlebury, seeded No. 3 in the tourney, advances to the NESCAC semi-finals and will take on Williams next Saturday at Bowdoin. The host team meets Amherst in the other semifinal match-up.

Middlebury came out firing as senior midfielder Conor Shapiro (Concord, Mass.) scored from 10 yards away after a shot from Dezotell was saved. The Panthers struck again at the 7:53 mark when junior back Jason Griffiths (Gauteng, South Africa) settled a ball from 20 yards away and then rifled a low line drive into the back of the net.

The momentum then shifted a bit as junior midfielder John Klaus (Blue Bell, Pa.) found the back of the net after a scramble in the box. The Bantams continued to pressure Middlebury for the remainder of the half, but Middlebury sophomore goalie David Lindholm (Cornwall, Vt.) made diving saves on shots by sophomore forward John Ziadie (Kingston, Jamaica) and senior co-captain midfielder Peter Zoppi (Cheshire, Conn.) to preserve the 2-1 halftime lead.

Dezotell gave Middlebury a 3-1 lead at the 54:05 mark as he ripped home a left footed shot from just inside the box. The goal was the 33rd of his career, breaking the Middlebury all-time mark. The Panthers added two insurance goals to account for a 5-1 final tally.  Lindholm ended the contest with six saves, while sophomore netminder Jamie Burns (Minnetonka, Minn.) made 10 stops for Trinity.
