TRINITY MEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO AMHERST,
MEETS MIDDLEBURY IN NESCAC TOURNEY

Hartford, Conn. - Senior Dave Michner (Eden Prairie, Minn) and junior Jeff Cantwell (Randolph, N.J.) scored goals to lead the visiting Amherst College Lord Jeffs to a 2-0 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women’s soccer action this afternoon.

Trinity finishes the regular season with a 7-6-1 overall record and a 4-4-1 mark in the NESCAC, while the Jeffs finish at 10-3-1 overall and 6-3 in the league. The Bantams have qualified for a first-ever NESCAC Championship Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will play a first round game at No. 3-seeded Middlebury tomorrow at noon. No. 2 Williams hosts No. 7 Wesleyan and No. 4 Amherst hosts No. 5 Tufts in other first round games tomorrow. Bowdoin earned the top seed with a 7-1-1 league mark, receives a bye to the semi-final round, and will host the semi-final and final rounds next weekend.

The Trinity attack was led by senior co-captains Morgan Sandell (Cohasset, Mass.) and Peter Zoppi (Cheshire, Conn), who combined on seven shots in their final home game, but were unable to find the back of the net. Bantam sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Burns (Minnetonka, Minn.) had nine saves in the loss, but was out dueled by Amherst freshmen Greg Lockwood (Vancouver, Wash.) who had four saves for the shutout. Freshmen Joe Gannon (Hanson, Mass.) assisted both goals for the Jeffs.
