MIDDLEBURY BEATS TRINITY IN MEN'S SOCCER

Middlebury, Vt. – Junior goalkeeper Brian Hamm (Terryville, Conn.) made four saves and recorded his sixth shutout of the year to lead the Middlebury College Panthers to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College AThletic Conference men's soccer action this afternoon.

Trinity falls to 4-5-3 and 2-5-1 in the NESCAC, while the Panthers, ranked No. 3 in New England and No. 18 in NCAA Division III, improve to 10-1-2 and 6-1-1 in the league with their ninth straight win.

Middlebury opened the scoring at 39:55 off a corner kick. The initial shot from outside the box was pushed aside by Trinity freshman goalkeeper Michael Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.), but Panther junior Brian Lavin (Potomac, Md.) followed with a rebound shot that found the lower left corner for a 1-0 Panther lead.

Middlebury added an insurance goal on a goal by senior Sergey Cherednichenko (Scottsville, N.Y.). Doherty finished with four saves for the Bantams.
