Cape Coral, Fla.- Junior second baseman Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) went 2-for 3 with a home run and three RBI to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 9-3 win in the second game and a split of the doubleheader with the St. Lawrence University Saints in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Baseball Classic this afternoon. Trinity, who lost for the first time in five games in the opener, 7-6, are now 5-1. St. Lawrence moves to 2-4.

Trinity junior catcher Rob Dolliver (Norwich, Conn.) also homered for Trinity in the second game, while freshman infielder Jeff Natale (Hamden, Conn.) was 2-for-2. Freshman right-hander Mark Tremblay (Hooksett, N.H.) won his collegiate debut on the mound, combining with junior righty Carlos Resto (Framingham, Mass.) on a five-hitter. Resto pitched two innings of scoreless relief to earn his first career save. The Bantams scored five runs in the first inning and never trailed.

In the first game, the Saints scored three runs on five consecutive singles in the top of the seventh inning to record the comeback victory, despite Trinity home runs by senior Mark Mahoney (Newton, Mass.), junior third baseman Jayme Dorr (Osterville, Mass.), and the first in the career of freshman catcher Andrew Fries (Dublin, Ohio). Mahoney worked six innings, allowing four runs, in his collegiate debut on the mound. Trinity senior right-hander Justin Olewnik (Cheshire, Conn.) took the loss in relief.
