Research Jump Point
This is a link site for music research. It has a fairly open structure, consisting of wide-ranging headings and then a listing of links within that category. The sites on this page have been more fully described because of the relatively broad base of subjects covered. They will be of more immediate utility in beginning research. It is not intended that this be a complete listing of all resources on the Web, but rather a pointer towards some very complete sites as well as fairly out of the way sites. Several of the links below, and on the supporting pages, lead to sites which reference each other; others are unique (or nearly so). All should add something to the search for knowledge in the fields surrounding music. As a general rule the sites are listed in order of utility. Any other organization method perceived is purely happenstance. Where a site has no description, its title can be assumed to be self-referential.
The pictures at the top of the page take you to Trinity College's main Web Page and to the Trinity College Music Department's Web Page, respectively.
Music Information Resources - UCSB - Solid beginning site for research. The header section links to subjects further down the page, including, but not limited to: Associations, Composers, Musicology, Theory, etc... Immediately below the header is a section on UCSB Library guides and then the full link listing of sites follows. Great general use link site.
Society for Ethnomusicology - Ethnomusicology-related links - Very strong starting point for information related to ethnomusicology. This web page contains a full serving of links to Ethnomusicology societies, websites, journals, and conferences as well as links to their members' sites and other music-related sites. It also has links to several special project websites of a more specific nature (gamelan, Arab music, etc...)
Practical Musical Theory - Links - Another good beginning site for music information on the Web. This frame-enabled site gives one quick access to a large number of interesting sites. Also has an interesting articles section accessible through the menu bar at the top of the page. The articles are in their original languages.
Internet Resources for Music Scholars - Very complete link jump-point which provides a wide variety of areas in which to search. The initial page is sparse as it primarily lists the headers for the other link pages. It does have a very complete list of other college websites and libraries. This resource is based at Harvard University.
The Timid Soul's Guide to Classical Music - A great source for ideas on getting started in classical music. Provides history of some composers, suggestions for listening, and a guide to how to listen.
