The target audience is those students whose weakest proficiency areas are numerical reasoning and logical reasoning. Students study correct and fallacious reasoning in both numerical and verbal contexts. In the numerical case, they examine numbers and counting, including Venn diagrams, as well as percents and graphs used in the media. In studying verbal reasoning, students examine inductive and deductive arguments, the validity of some argument structures, and the formal fallacies of inverse, converse, and false chain. In addition to tests, a final project is required of each student. The project is a “scrapbook” of examples illustrating most of the topics of the course, with accompanying explanations and source credits.
