The target audience is those students whose weakest proficiency areas are numerical and statistical reasoning. Students apply basic concepts of probability and statistics to actual data. Probability concepts include theoretical and empirical definitions, as well as the addition and multiplication principles and expected value. Statistical concepts include the usual measures of central tendency and dispersion of data and various graphical displays of these relationships, such as box plots, stem plots, and frequency histograms. Examples of graphs from the media are also examined with respect to honesty and clarity of the relationships shown.
