Evaluation Measures for Kellogg Project Initiatives

During academic year 1999-2000. the evaluation team drafted a list of goals, objectives, and measures for each of the Kellogg initiatives.  The list served as a framework for thinking about the anticipated outcomes for the initiatives and for planning what indicators and measurement approaches should be used to assess those outcomes.  The leaders of each initiative were active in identifying the goals, outcomes, and measures for their initiatives.

In “building an extended community of learning,” the initiatives may have effects on (1) Trinity College as an institution, (2) Trinity’s faculty, (3) Trinity’s students, and (4) organizations and individuals in the community.  To keep these four target groups in mind, measures and indicators were identified for each (not all were relevant for all initiatives in the grant proposal).

The format for each initiative is:

·         Statement of goal(s)

·         Expected outcomes related to the goals

·         A matrix of variables, indicators, and measurement approaches related to the outcomes.

The matrix is organized by the four target groups:

1.       Trinity College as an institution

2.       Trinity’s faculty

3.       Trinity’s students

4.       Organizations and individuals in the community
