Re:      Opportunities for Research Projects in the Neighborhood

The Kellogg Evaluation Committee would like to invite faculty members to take part in the evaluation of the Kellogg Project.  We encourage you to think about how your students, classes, and research interests can be linked to the Kellogg Project and related research endeavors in the surrounding community.

Part of the charge to the Kellogg Evaluation Committee is to track changes in the neighborhood.  The committee has identified nine categories and indicators of quality of life in the neighborhood, including housing, economy, safety and security, education, health, social services, community resources and involvement, population demographics, and social integration.  While it is not expected that the Kellogg Project will directly effect all of these indicators, we are monitoring these quality of life indicators.  The Kellogg Evaluation Committee is in the process of developing a wide-ranging research program for collecting and analyzing this secular trend data.  We are looking at both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

The Committee is anxious to include Trinity faculty and staff in the Kellogg evaluation for this purpose.  We welcome inquiries from anyone interested in doing research on these dimensions of community life.  Research can range from small classroom-based studies to large scale multi-year projects.  It is hoped that through these efforts more information about the neighborhood can be collected and more faculty and staff at Trinity College will become involved in the Kellogg Project, its evaluation, and in building stronger campus-community partnerships.

To support these research efforts, several funding and resource opportunities exist. More information about the Kellogg Project and its evaluation can be found on the web site: http://www.hartnet.org/kellogg/.  If you are interested in pursuing such an opportunity, or would like more information, please contact Jody Brandon, Kellogg Project Evaluation Coordinator at x2559 or via e-mail.  Thank you.
