AGENCY FUNCTION: Provides public library services to citizens and taxpayers of Hartford and the State. Seeking one or more interns to assist in launching hartfordinfo, a new project of the Hartford Community Information Center (HCIC). The HCIC is a consortium of Hartford organizations led by the Hartford Public Library. hartfordinfo will be a center of data and information about a wide variety of issues concerning Hartford's communities. INTERN ACTIVITIES: DATA ANALYST: Seeking one or more interns to assist in launching hartfordinfo, a new project of the Hartford Community Information Center (HCIC). The HCIC is a consortium of Hartford organizations led by the Hartford Public Library. hartfordinfo will be a center of data and information about a wide variety of issues concerning Hartford's communities. Interns with skills and interest in data analysis are needed to help launch the project. More specifically, interns should have experience in 1) developing and working with descriptive statistics; 2) displaying and representing data graphically in charts, tables, and graphs; and 3) using Excel, or Access, or other tools such as SPSS. An interest in community and neighborhood issues and how data and information can be applied to them is also desireable. WEB SITE ASSISTANT: Seeking one or more interns with skills and an interest in web site management and development. Interns should have experience in 1) updating and managing web sites; 2) using HTML, Front Page, and other web development tools; and 3) experience in web site development (desirable but not required.) HARTFORD COLLECTION: Work first hand with historical primary sources. Learn to preserve, arrange, index and exhibit a variety of formats including archival and manuscript collections, photographs, maps, and pamphlets. Ideal for learning about library special collections.
