AGENCY FUNCTION: Foodshare is the regional food bank serving Hartford and Tolland counties. Foodshare provides food to 240 soup kitchens, emergency shelters, food pantries, and other social service programs in our service area. In 2002, Foodshare distributed over 8.2 million pounds of food. Foodshare's mission is to end hunger as a part of the overall community effort to alleviate poverty in greater Hartford. Major program emphases include the operation of a food bank to salvage and redistribute otherwise wasted food, and increasing individual and community awareness and action concerning hunger and related issues. INTERN ACTIVITIES: Internships are available in various areas including: public relations/special events; agency relations; and assisting with the produce recovery program. Interns are needed to provide staff support and coordination to several major food drive campaigns and to the Walk Against Hunger, a fundraiser held in the spring.
