YWCA Northeast Region - Advocacy Center SPRING, SUMMER, FALL. The YWCA of the North East Region is at the forefront in promoting policies that help women and low-income families move out of poverty and toward economic self-sufficiency. A capable, enthusiastic and dedicated intern is needed to do research projects on public policies and women's issues, writing assignments, special activities not staffed by regular employees, and participation in Connecticut's Permanent Commission on the Status of Women. YWCA of the Hartford Region Sexual Assault Crisis Service SPRING, SUMMER, FALL. A crisis intervention and advocacy service, with two 24-hour hotlines, one in English and one in Spanish. Agency provides short-term counseling services to victims and family members, and advocacy within the court, police, medical system for sexual assault victims. Intern will be involved with counseling, advocacy, community education/outreach, administrative duties and special projects. CT NOW (National Organization for Women) FALL. Organization works through feminist activism to protect and expand the rights/opportunities of women and girls, and eliminate gender-based discrimination. Intern would work with director to support legislative and lobbying efforts, by creating fact sheets, researching issues, assisting with grassroots organizing efforts, fundraising, assisting with development and implementation of fall fundraiser, "Real Women On (and Off) the Runway," a mock fashion show designed to raise awareness and educate about the ways in which the fashion/media industries have impacted women's lives.
