Mercy Housing and Shelter Corporation SPRING, SUMMER, FALL. Organization that serves people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. An intern is needed in the Development Office, to assist the Director of Development in planning and participating in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of potential donors to the Annual Fund. Tasks will include maintenance of donor records and assistance with activities related to the annual appeal. Intern candidate should be able to interact well with the public and have strong written and oral communication skills. Wheeler Clinic Alternative Incarceration Center SPRING, SUMMER, FALL. Agency provides treatment for clients involved in the criminal justice system, including those on probation, parole or in a pre-trial situation. Intern will assist with intake, assist with facilitation of "job club," case management, one-on-one interventions, documentation, clerical work and answering phones. Nurturing Family Program (Catholic Charities) FALL, SPRING, SUMMER. Serving primarily families in Hartford, agency supports/educates first-time parents in order to prevent child abuse and to foster healthy family development. Intern will recruit participants and co-facilitate parenting groups on issues such as child development, discipline, safety. Will assist in assessing family needs and home visits. The Cove Center for Grieving Children SUMMER, FALL, SPRING. Established in 1995, its mission is to offer support services to children/families who have lost a loved one to death. Also offers training to professionals and organizations who work with kids. Central office is in Meriden, with 8 support group sites throughout the state. Community Partners in Action - Young Offender Program SPRING. 6 positions suitable for internships: Court Liaison - appear in Hartford Superior Court to accept clients into program; bring progress reports to court ; interview/screen, gather info on prospective clients. School Liaison - advise/support clients with educational activities; attend school meetings; obtain weekly updates on client attendance/academic performance; other duties as required.  Case Manager - open/update client files; conduct orientation session for new clients; meet regularly with clients, providing guidance, support; prepare progress reports; close files on discharged clients. Client Monitor - update curfew log; regularly place phone calls to clients' homes after 8 p.m. curfew; monitor each client's attendance at weekly mandatory workshops. Education Workshop Facilitator - gather/organize packets of high school educational materials from Hartford Board of Ed; develop method of assessing clients' skills in reading, math, etc; conduct workshops for out-of-school clients. Employment Assistant - assist youth employment specialist in recruiting/training out-of-school youth for Employment Assistance Program; act as liaison between employment supervisors and program; assist in-school clients in obtaining/maintaining employment. The Partnership for Strong Communities SPRING, SUMMER. Education and advocacy group whose mission is to advance supportive housing, affordable housing, community development and the promotion of sound housing policy options. Several different internship opportunities available: Compilation of Statistics & Authorship of Monthly Narrative on CT's Leading Housing Indicators (for economics/finance major): to measure housing availability, affordability, industry health. Lyceum Speaker Series: contact constituent groups to develop lists of potential speakers. Develop series of high level policy explorations for public and private sector opinion leaders, journalists and activists. Development of Student Art, Essay and Public Speaking Contests on homelessness, housing policy and community development: work with CT associations of boards of education, superintendents, teacher unions, PTO's, individual schools and students to think, write, examine the meaning of home and the integral - if taken for granted - role that the safety/security of a home plays in our lives. Research/Development of Marketing Plans for The Lyceum, Affordable Housing Campaign and Next Step Initiative for Supportive Housing (for communications, marketing, public policy student): adapting affordable housing campaigns from other states facing similar problems to a campaign that would work in CT. Conference Planning & Development (for public policy student): arrange for speakers, demographically develop strategic audience in conjunction with the CT Conference of Municipalities and CCSU. Affordable Design (for student in architecture, art or design): update website feature on design, develop new film exhibit, oversee visiting Affordable Housing Design Show. Community Renewal Team - Youth Artisan  SPRING, SUMMER, FALL. The purpose of our program is to serve urban youth, ages 12-16, in the area of scholastic support, personal development, visual and performing arts. Goal is to cultivate appreciation for the arts, develop performance abilities, build leadership skills and encourage scholastic achievement. Field trips, community projects, exhibits and performances are used to strengthen skills and to reiterate lessons learned. Interns will teach lessons in time management, organization, budgeting and conflict resolution. Will assist with homework assignments and computer skills, will present workshop on preparing for college and will organize a tour of Trinity campus. Must show leadership in community service projects. Will supervise students during visits to local museums, theatre and art exhibits. Goodwill Industries of the Springfield/Hartford Area SPRING, SUMMER, FALL. Agency mission is to actively assist people with disabilities and other needs to expand their vocational and independent living skills, to attain their maximum personal potential. Intern must have completed 3 years toward the Bachelor's Degree. Will be responsible for creation and maintenance of employer database for vocational rehabilitation department, the assembly of marketing materials and PR mailings, research of community-based job leads and may, possibly, assist with creation of organizational website. Would attend relevant staff meetings, shadow staff in the community, and gain hands-on experience of working for well-established, local non-profit agency.
