Aton Forest, Inc.  - SUMMER. Non-profit organization devoted to scientific research, open space conservation and permanent preservation of the lands of Aton Forest, 1100 acres of woodland, wetlands and abandoned farmland located in Norfolk, CT. The majority of Aton Forest is protected to provide an area where natural processes can be studied with a minimum of human interference. Intern will establish a current herbarium collection, consisting primarily of plants from the Aton Forest Preserve. This will involve creating labels, collecting and/or mounting of specimens. Course work in plant identification and familiarity with diagnostic keys are required. Experience in mounting and labeling specimens is desirable. Please contact John P. Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology - SPRING. Locate internet-based resources for middle/high school science and technology projects; help develop software training tools for middle/high school teachers and students; develop middle/high school science/technology experiments and activities; mentor students in program activities. Located at Founders Plaza in East Hartford and at various middle/high schools in Greater Hartford. Will run from mid-January through mid-April. Flexible hours . Hartford Food System SPRING, SUMMER. Mission of organization is to ensure that all CT residents have access to nutritious, affordable foods. "Grow Hartford" program promotes sustainable and equitable food system in Hartford by cultivating youth leadership and civic participation through agriculture. Two opportunities: Education and Agriculture Intern: Teach and supervise youth. Experience working with at-risk youth desirable. Must demonstrate desire to learn, enjoy physical work and not be afraid to get dirty! 3-month position, 20 hrs./week. Stipend of $400 and assistance with housing. Urban Agriculture Intern: Set up special projects related to topics of interest, including composting or vermiculture, butterfly gardens or sensory gardens, seed-saving, herbs, etc. Would require 8-10 hours/week.
