Jewish Federation Association of Connecticut (JFACT) SPRING, SUMMER, FALL. Legislative and government affairs representative on the interests of concern to the Jewish community in Connecticut. These include elder care, child advocacy, immigration, education, Medicare and Medicaid. JFACT serves as an advocate for the Jewish Community on issues throughout the state of Connecticut, National and International issues. JFACT also runs two coalitions out of the office, The Connecticut Coalition to Save Darfur, and The Connecticut Immigrant and Refugee Coalition. Friends of Joe Lieberman FALL Committee to re-elect Senator Joe Lieberman. Committee to Elect Governor Rell FALL. Interns will be involved in a professionally run statewide political campaign. Responsibilities will include organizing and participating in grass-roots political events and coordinating volunteers for campaign activities. Interns may also be involved in assisting with communications, opposition research, website, fundraising and coalition efforts. Ned Lamont for Senate FALL. Campaign to have Connecticut's Democratic nominee for US Senate, Ned Lamont, elected. Intern will be involved in field organizing, voter contact, volunteer coordination, event organization, and get-out-the-vote operations. The emphasis will be on voter contact, via phone, canvassing, or at events. Interns will also be encouraged to act as liaisons between the campaign and their peers at Trinity. Engaging younger voters is one of the prime objectives of the campaign. Connecticut Conference of Municipalities  SPRING. Association of cities and towns, representing its members at the CT General Assembly, before the State Executive Branch, regulatory agencies and the courts. CCM provides other services, including assistance with management, labor relations, technical training and policy development. Intern will assist advocacy staff with tracking/monitoring legislation and amendments at legislative meetings/hearings. Will require research of legislative history, floor debates, opposition and support for current law/pending legislation to enable the staff to craft effective lobbying strategy. Though CCM's office is located in New Haven, most or all of intern's time will be spent in Hartford. Intern must  provide own transportation, and be aware that hours toward end of legislative session are very long, and often reach past midnight. He or she MUST be able to work during this period. Sullivan & LeShane, Inc. SPRING. Lobbying/PR firm provides legislative, administrative and municipal lobbying services to corporations. Intern will assist Legislative Coordinator with bill tracking, House/Senate chamber monitoring, data collection and research. Will serve as link between office and lobbyists at the Legislative Office Building or Capitol, and will assist with special projects and events and handle daily tasks (data entry, photocopying, mailings,etc.) Must have flexible schedule with early morning and late night availability and ability to work approximately 20-40 hours/week. Connecticut State Medical Society  SPRING. Stipend available. Organization for CT physicians with 6500+ members. Along with providing traditional services of a membership organization, CSMS is an advocate for physicians and patients at the State Capitol, serving to protect, promote and strengthen the quality of healthcare in CT. Intern will work to increase participation of physicians in legislative process by coordinating physician attendance at legislative proceedings, educating them/assisting them with their participation, developing appropriate materials for relevant pending legislation, assisting with legislative tracking and research, coordinating participation at public hearings, and more. CT Citizens Coalition for Nursing Home Reform FALL, SPRING. Coalition of social service providers, legal and other advocates of the elderly, including nursing home residents and staff. Organization advocates for nursing home reform, particularly for a bill to set minimum nursing home staffing requirements as recommended by national organizations. Intern would assist in developing legislative support for a comprehensive package of standards and funding to be presented to the Legislature in 2005.  Some tasks:  working to establish a credible cost estimate for a staffing plan, increasing the involvement of families, organizing contacts with legislators to recruit support, following the progress of the bill. CT NOW (National Organization for Women)  FALL. Organization works through feminist activism to protect and expand the rights/opportunities of women and girls, and eliminate gender-based discrimination. Intern would work with director to support legislative and lobbying efforts, by creating fact sheets, researching issues, assisting with grassroots organizing efforts, fundraising, assisting with development and implementation of fall fundraiser, "Real Women On (and Off) the Runway," a mock fashion show designed to raise awareness and educate about the ways in which the fashion/media industries have impacted women's lives.
