Newspapers
Many different newspapers have been published in and about Hartford over the years. The city's two major dailies have been the Hartford Courant and the Hartford Times (which stopped publishing in 1976). The Courant is available on microfilm at the Trinity Library (as well as at other local libraries), and the Times is available on microfilm at the Hartford Public Library and the Connecticut Historical Society.
Trinity users may access an archive of Hartford Courant articles since 1992 online through the library's iConn database; they can also access the Hartford Courant from 1764 to 1922 in the "Historical Hartford Courant" database. Search by word or date within the text of articles, advertisements, and obituaries. (For either of these, follow the link to "News and Current Events" from the list of "Trinity Online Resources.")
For recent newspaper articles on a range of topics, go to the HartfordInfo website at http://www.hartfordinfo.org, where you can find recent Hartford Courant articles arranged by subject matter.
The Connecticut State Library has the largest collection of local newspapers; see their website for much helpful information about Connecticut newspapers, including a list of ethnic newspapers published in the state, current newspapers on the web, clipping files, indexes, and the Connecticut Newspaper Project.
