Criteria for Admission to Study Away

Students often ask how many study away programs they should apply to in order to assure their acceptance. Trinity allows you to select two (2) study away programs per term of study away. We require students to select one program as their program of preference and to have a back-up program in the event an alternate is needed.  It has been our experience that when students do the proper research, comply with program prerequisites, confer with their advisers and other faculty, and consult with the International Programs staff, they are usually accepted into their first choice program.

Summary of criteria for admission to a study away program:

1.       Students must meet the Trinity College minimum GPA requirement for study away of  2.7.

2.       Students must have fulfilled their quantitative literacy requirement (math proficiency) by the end of their sophomore year. This must be completed prior to studying away.

3.       Students must submit their Request for Approval to Study Away by the Trinity deadline and apply to their approved programs by the deadlines.

4.       Students must meet all program pre-requisites, including higher GPA requirements, language requirements, etc.

5.       Students must be in good social standing (not have any serious disciplinary issues).

6.       Students must remain in good academic and social standing to gain final approval to study away. Students on academic probation will not be permitted to study away.

The OIP can help advise you about program requirements and the need to apply to a back-up. Remember that some programs are competitive and may fill up early.
