Applying to Programs

Application forms for Trinity programs and many approved programs are available in the Office of International Programs (OIP), located at 66 Vernon Street. Most of Trinity’s approved study away programs have websites that provide links to their application forms. In some cases, you may need to contact your programs to obtain an application and program materials. The Guidelines for Study Away will provide you with the websites for each of Trinity’s approved programs.

Approval or reference forms required by many non-Trinity programs should be given to the OIP staff. Always be sure to include a stamped envelope addressed to the proper person or office at your host program.

Students should submit their program applications as early as possible and well before listed deadlines. Be sure that applications for fall or full year study away are submitted no later than March 1, and that applications for spring study away are submitted no later than October 15 even if the program or institution to which you are applying has a later deadline.

Before the Office of International Programs sends administrative approval to your host program, your academic record will be reviewed. Allow several days lead time for all documents.

Types of programs:

Program options fall into three main categories:

Trinity Programs: Trinity Rome Campus; Trinity’s Global Learning Sites in Barcelona, Cape Town, Istanbul, Moscow, Paris, Santiago, Trinidad, and Vienna; and Trinity in Shanghai. These programs are developed and managed by Trinity College.

Trinity Affiliate Programs: Curtin University in Australia; Denmark’s International Study Program (DIS); NYU in Ghana, London, and Shanghai; PRESHCO in Cordoba, Spain; University of East Anglia; Baden-Württemberg Exchange; Lingnan University and Chinese University of Hong Kong Exchanges (currently suspended) These programs are developed through linkages between Trinity and partner institutions abroad or consortia relationships. They have a connection to Trinity, but are not administered directly by Trinity College.

Trinity Approved Programs: (Please click on link for the list.)These programs extend Trinity students’ study away option to include options in almost every part of the world. They are not administered by Trinity College, but are run by U.S. or international colleges, universities, or organizations to which students must apply directly after gaining approval to study away. Note that students attending these programs pay a study away fee to the College, but pay the program provider directly – see financial section for details.

Trinity students who attend Trinity-administered programs (the Trinity Global Learning Sites, the Rome Campus, and PRESHCO) will earn grades that are calculated into their Trinity GPAs. Trinity students who attend approved non-Trinity programs will earn grades that will not be calculated into their Trinity’s GPAs. The grades will appear on the Trinity transcript, however.

Note that students can apply to study away in their sophomore, junior years or in the first semester of their senior years. Some programs may not permit sophomores to apply, however. Trinity-administered summer programs typically allow applications from all students in good academic standing.
