Financial Aid for Non-Trinity
Foreign
|
All Trinity College students who
are financial aid recipients may use Trinity
College-controlled financial aid for study away for one or
two semesters under the conditions listed below.
FOREIGN STUDY
1. Financial aid may be used only for
participation in programs approved by the Office of
International Programs. A list of these is available in
Goodwin Lounge.
2. A student must be in good academic
standing at Trinity College (not on or subject to Academic
Probation or Required Withdrawal) at the time of application
and at the conclusion of the semester just prior to the
commencement of the foreign study program in which he or she
wishes to participate.
3. The proposed foreign study program must
offer the student applicant the opportunity to maintain
normal progress toward the Bachelor's degree and to earn the
equivalent of at least four transferable course credits per
regular semester (three transferable course credits per
British university term, quarter, or trimester).
4. For Non-Trinity sponsored study away programs: Each applicant must complete and submit to the Office of Financial Aid at Trinity the Power of Attorney/Transfer of Aid form and submit a Consortium Agreement form to the host institution for the program you will be attending. These forms will be mailed to your campus box. This must be done by December 1 (for Spring programs) or by May 15 (for Fall or full-year programs). Each student's financial need will be evaluated on the basis of his or her revised budget (including round-trip transportation and personal expenses) for the approved foreign study program. The same amount of Family Contribution and Student Contribution will be expected for the student's program as would have been expected for the same period of time at Trinity unless the program costs are higher for the semester you will be away. In no case will a grant amount be increased over that which the student would have been awarded for the comparable period of time at Trinity. If the budget is lower than that for the comparable period of time at Trinity, the amount of financial aid will be reduced. Provided there is eligibility in the budget, the student will be offered an additional loan to replace the work-study expectation and to cover the administrative fee charged by Trinity. Trinity Grant cannot be used to cover the administrative fee.
5. For Trinity sponsored study away programs: Each
student's financial need will be evaluated on the basis of his or her
revised budget (including round-trip transportation and personal expenses)
for the Trinity study away program. The same amount of Family
Contribution and Student Contribution will be expected for the student's
budget as would have been expected for the same period of time at Trinity.
If the budget is lower than that for the comparable period of time at
Trinity, the amount of financial aid will be reduced. Additional grant
will be awarded to replace work-study.
6. In November and April, the Office of International Programs will send to the Office of Financial Aid and the Student Financial Services section of the Business Office a list of those students planning to participate in foreign study and the programs in which they will be participating. This is the official list indicating to those offices the program on which each student will be studying and the period of time (semester or year) each will be participating.
7. For Non-Trinity sponsored study away programs: Once the Office of Financial Aid has approved a student’s budget, the student must make arrangements directly with the Trinity Student Accounts Office for the payment of the bill from the host institution or program. Each student must obtain an itemized bill from his or her host institution or program for presentation to the Student Accounts Office. The bill must show the program or institution's address. The Power of Attorney/Transfer of Aid form will give the Student Accounts Office permission to transfer funds to pay the student bill.
DOMESTIC STUDY
1. The use of Trinity-controlled financial aid for domestic study is limited to participation in the following specific programs: Twelve College Exchange, Williams-Mystic Maritime Studies Program, Eugene O'Neill National Theater Institute, SEA Semester at Woods Hole, Duke University Marine Laboratory, Washington Semester Programs of American University and Georgetown University, Woods Hole, Semester in Environmental Science. A student may discuss with the Director of International Programs and the Director of Financial Aid his or her desire to use Trinity-controlled financial aid for study elsewhere domestically, but exceptions are rarely made.
2.-6. Each of the conditions and procedures listed above (2. through 7.) must be followed, substituting "domestic" for "foreign."
