The Curriculum
Please note that Trinity-in-Moscow is available only in the spring semester.
Most courses are taken at RSUH (Russian
State University for the Humanities) for
transfer credit. However, students earn one
in-residence credit for the following three modules that are offered through the Gorky
Institute as the core course.
Module I: Political Forces in Russia Today
This is a survey of recent political events, the state of Russian society, and the ways in which contemporary Russian culture reflects the state of the nation. The course features meetings with members of the State Duma, government officials, and political commentators. Discussions are conducted at a weekly
seminar-supper. (One-half credit)
Module II: History and Culture of Moscow
This course consists of weekly walking tours of Moscow and its environs and contains four thematic segments: history of Moscow; Russian culture in stone; museums; and outlying estates and monasteries. Students do preparatory readings, keep a journal, and post digital pictures and observations on the Trinity-in-Moscow web site. (One-quarter credit)
Module III: The New Russia and Russian History: Continuity and Change.
Students take this course during the group's two-week stay in St. Petersburg. Daily walking tours cover art and architecture, as well as a theme on "literary Petersburg." (One-quarter credit)
All other courses are for transfer credit.
