It is with considerable sadness
that we recognise the recent passing of Eleanor Gibson on
December 30th, 2002. She was 92. Together with J. J. Gibson,
Eleanor Gibson helped define eological psychology as we
know it today. Her work on perceptual learning and development,
and the perception of affordances in children and other
mammals, provides challenging theoretical issues and empirical
data for all those interested in the organisation of behaviour.
Her recent books make for intriguing reading on both the
sociology and methodology of science.
