Gold Coast

Climate
On the coast at the time of our conference, the weather is expected to be "beautiful one day, perfect the next"! Mid-July is so-called Winter in Queensland, but the climate at this time of year is sunny and very mild with temperatures in the range 10 - 20 C. Bring a range of light clothing including your bathing costume for a daytime swim in the ocean and a light jacket for the evening.

Around Surfers Paradise
Given the remarkable environment of the Gold Coast region, there will be opportunity for attendees to visit local attractions (e.g., surf beaches, rainforest treks, Movie World, Sea World, Wet'n'Wild, etc.).

If you like the waves, beach, and surfing, take a look at what to expect with LIVE video from CoastalWatch, a web company developed by one of our past students, Chris Lane.

Connections

Overseas visitors will fly into either Sydney or Brisbane. Brisbane is the closer international destination. If you fly into Sydney you will need to arrange another connecting flight to either Brisbane or the closest airport to Surfers which is COOLANGATTA (Gold Coast airport).

Coolangatta is 30 minutes by minibus or taxi from Surfers Paradise. If you fly into Brisbane you should catch a minibus (approx. A$30) as it is 1 hour's drive from Surfers. Minibuses depart regularly from the airport and can be booked on arrival. Do not get a taxi as this will be expensive! For the adventurous there are trains that leave from the airport and will take you to the Gold Coast train station (Helensvale) at which point you will need a short taxi ride.
