Abstract:

Triclosan (5-chloro-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenol) is used as a common biocide in commercial products.  Water contamination by sewage effluent could be determined by analysis of triclosan levels.  Analysis methods for detecting triclosan using SPE, GC-MS and the principles of ELISA are under development and optimization.  Using the internal standard, D3-triclosan, accurate calibrations have been obtained and a limit of detection for the GC-MS method has been determined.  Water samples have been analyzed using both GC-MS and ELISA.  The final method will be later applied to the study of well contamination in Connecticut.
