1st Recipient
of the łAnna J. Harrison Undergraduate Research Prize˛

Dr. Anna J. Harrison was a member of the Mt. Holyoke College chemistry faculty from the mid 1940s to 1979. She was known nationally for her work in chemical education. She assumed major leadership roles in the American Chemical Society, serving as its first woman President and also as its first woman chair of the Division of Chemical Education. She took a keen interest in encouraging young women to pursue the study of the chemical sciences, in general, and chemistry in particular. A grateful Mt. Holyoke alumna of the 1950s and her husband established an endowment fund to honor Professor Harrison, the income from which underwrites this award. The endowment is administered by the Connecticut Valley Section. The Section includes approximately 30 colleges and universities with chemistry and chemical engineering departments.
