Shannon spent two years working as a research technician at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She was doing microbiology work. She worked with Staphylococcus aureus, a very common bacteria in causing hospital acquired infections. She has also traveled to both Peru and India for medical volunteering. Now she is meandering the streets of Cambridge, England waiting for an Irish passport to facilitate getting probably another research job in England for a year. Hopefully, after the painstaking application process, she will be attending medical school back in the US for 2008.
