Festival of Lessons and Carols
The service of Nine Lessons and Carols was begun at Trinity College in 1958. Essentially it follows the rite established at by Dr. E. Milner-White, who was appointed Dean of Kings College, Cambridge, England in 1918. The service consists of Christmas carols and other Christmas music interspersed with nine passages of scripture chosen from the Old and New Testaments that trace the spiritual history of the birth of Jesus. The Trinity Chapel Singers and the Concert Choir lead the musical portions of the service, under the direction of the College Organist and Director of Music Mr. John Rose assisted by the Director of the Concert Choir. Readers are chosen from various groups within the wider College community.
