Brief History

A welcome and brief history of  Chapel Music from John Rose, College Organist and Director of Chapel Music:

Chapel Music has always played an important role in the life Trinity College. In fact, the Chapel Choir was the first student organization founded at the college when Trinity's campus occupied the land where Connecticut's State Capitol now stands.

A strong tradition of Chapel Music continues to this day with an active program which includes music for sacred services, a wide variety of concerts and the teaching of organ students and singers.

The resonant qualities of the Chapel's fine acoustics provide an excellent setting for choral, vocal and instrumental performances and for the magnificent 79 rank Austin Pipe organ located under the Rose Window at the Chapel's West End.  The smaller Crypt Chapel houses a fine tracker organ by the English pipe organ builder Nicholson & Co. The fine acoustics of this room provide a wonderful ambience for the singing of chant and for smaller instrumental ensembles.
