On entering the Chapel for the first time, the visitor can best observe the
full sweep of the building from the west end in front of the organ. From this
vantage point the eye is drawn to the east end of the building and the main
alter.
In the Main Chapel, one immediately notes that the seats for
the congregation face each other. This arrangement follows the monastic origin
of collegiate chapels in England. Since monks' services included frequent
antiphonal reading of services including, alternating by sides, the seats were
arranged to facilitate such practice.
