Beneath the sanctuary is the Crypt Chapel, which has enjoyed a sentimental
place in the history of the building. In repeating architectural history, the
Chapel begins with the Crypt in the Norman style of the 12th Century and is
completed with the Tower in the architectural style of the 14th.
It was in the Crypt Chapel, the first part of the Chapel to
be completed, that the workmen held their weekly early morning service, lead by
President Ogilby. The Construction of the Chapel became a very personal project
to these men, who decided to give a window for the Crypt as a means of
expressing their devotion to the building. In a window on the right side of the
Crypt Chapel are faces of some of the chapel builders, reproduced from actual
photographs. The Crypt is still used for some of the regular worship services of
the College.
