If you select a laptop, please note the following:

  1. Your request may not be possible. Selecting a laptop is not a guarantee that IT has the funds to provide you with one, as laptops are more expensive than desktops.
  2. You will need to contact Facilities to request an anchor be installed on your desk. (This will be necessary to lock down your computer adequately, for most offices.)
  3. You will need to schedule a time, preferably the same day you receive your laptop, to meet with a member of Distributed Computing, to be shown how to use the Defcon lock that comes with your computer, as well as the features of your new laptop.
  4. Laptops do not come with floppy or zip drives. Instead they have a CD/DVD burner for use in backing up files. A flash or jump drive which plugs into the USB port is recommended to shuttle individual files between computers, if you can't use the network. Distributed Computing staff will take any files you have saved on disks and convert them to CDroms for you.

7.) DATA: To make the transition easier for the computer technician and you, we strongly recommend that you consolidate your personal files. Where is your data located on your computer? (Desktop, My Documents, root level of C: etc.)

Please note the following regarding your personal files:

  1. Your old computer will be removed and held for two weeks, after which time it will be erased of all of its contents in preparation for reassignment.
  2. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT IMMEDIATELY AFTER GETTING YOUR NEW COMPUTER YOU CHECK TO ENSURE YOU HAVE ALL OF YOUR FILES. ONCE YOUR OLD COMPUTER IS ERASED WE WILL NO LONGER HAVE A BACKUP FOR YOU.
  3. On your new computer, your files will be located in the My Documents folder on the Desktop for Windows, or in the Documents folder in your personal account for Macs.

9) Applications: Non-Standard

PLEASE NOTE: Applications that have not been updated in a number of years might not work on your new computer. In general, for any personal applications you have, we will require the original disks or CDs to install the software.

New Windows computers will come with Office 2007, which looks significantly different from previous versions of Office. Please review our online documentation regarding what's new in Office 2007 at http://www.trincoll.edu/depts/cc/documentation/office07.

  2. If you currently use any programs on your office computer that are not included on the list of standard Trinity programs, we will need to know what they are. These might include:
    ● screensavers
    ● dictionary programs
    ● analysis tools
    ● fonts or keyboards
    ● language programs

    We can only reinstall programs for which you or the college have a legal license.
  3. NOTE: In cases where special software cannot be reinstalled and is a necessary application, then the upgrade may be postponed indefinitely until a migration path is determined.

10.) CURRENT AND FUTURE PROJECTS:
Are you currently involved in or will you be involved in any projects or research that require specific hardware or software to complete? What are your hardware or software requirements (to the best of your knowledge)?

 
11.) CUSTOM HARDWARE:
Do you have any custom hardware connected to your computer? This might include interface boards (expansion boards that interface with other electronic equipment), extra video cards, special modems, PDAs, external drives, keys/dongles and any other hardware you may attach to your computer.


12.) PRINTERS:
Please note the default printer will be the department Cannon ImageRunner Printer/Copier set to duplex as it allows for large jobs to be printed, collated, and saves the College the most money in support and maintenance costs.

Please list any personal printers, scanners, and copiers etc. directly connected to your computer and specify if they have a USB, firewire, serial, or parallel connection (if it is SCSI it may not be able to be supported on the new computer):
