How do I connect to the wireless network with my Airport Card?

So, you've got a Mac with an Airport card.  Airport technology offers a simple and fast way to connect to a wireless network.

Pre-installed Airport card:

If the card is preinstalled, then you should be all set.  The card should have been installed correctly and running the appropriate software.  The only thing left to do is to try it and see if you get connectivity.  Your manuals may provide support here.

Non-pre-installed Airport card:
If the card is not pre-installed, you have some additional steps.  Depending on what type of machine you have, (G3, G4, PowerBook, IMac, new desktop, etc.) the instructions vary.  In some, you will have to install just the card.  In some, you have to mount the Airport card onto another piece, called its 'backing' before you can put it into your machine.  Regardless, consult the card manuals AND the manuals that came with your SPECIFIC machine.  In addition, you can go to http://ww.apple.com/support for further help.

You may reach the Computing Center Help desk at x2007 or e-mail us at consultants@trincoll.edu if you have trouble or questions.

Note*: By policy, we are not allowed to install hardware for you, though we may help you by instructing you on how to do it.
