DORMITORY TELEPHONE GUIDELINES

The campus telecommunications network includes your dormitory phone. Like the computer networks, the phone networks are designed and maintained by the Computing Center. Trinity operates it's own phone system.

Each student residence comes equipped with a telephone plug which supports touch-tone telephone service. When purchasing a telephone for Trinity dormitory use, it is important that the telephone utilize touch-tone or tone service as the dormitory voice mail system can only be accessed by a touch-tone phone.

Telephones are not supplied by Trinity College for use in student rooms.

Help For Telephone Questions

To report problems with your phone service: Please call TRIN (x8746) and select the option which describes your problem.

Directory information: Directory information for all Trinity College students and employees is published each semester in the TRINITY COLLEGE DIRECTORY. Directory information can be accessed via the web on the campus directory page at http://internet2.trincoll.edu/pswebtools/directory.aspx. This information is updated daily, and supercedes the paper form of the directory soon after it's published.

"1-411" information: Student phone numbers are not available from AtT&T Local or any white pages listing information. If you cannot find the number for a student contact the Trinity College switchboard (dial 297-2000 from off campus).

Dialing Instructions

Campus Calls: To place a call to a Trinity extension while on campus, dial the four-digit extension number. To call campus phones from OFF campus, dial (860) 297 or 987 followed by the four-digit extension number.

Local Calls: To place a call within the Hartford calling area, dial 9(860) followed by the 7 digit number. To call anywhere outside the Hartford calling area, dial 9(860) or 9(203) and then the number.

Long Distance/Overseas Calls: All dormitory and public telephones are restricted and require the use of a calling card for toll and directory assistance calls. Pre-paid calling cards are widely available including the College Book Store located in the basement of Mather Hall. This does not affect on-campus or local calling which is free of charge.

Voice Mail Services

Telephone service to each dormitory residence includes access to a voice messaging system called Meridian Mail. If a call is not answered after four rings, the call is answered electronically by Meridian Mail and the caller is prompted to leave a message. When a message is left, your phone will produce a broken dial tone to notify you that a voice message has been left in your "mailbox" when you lift the handset.

To Access Your Mailbox:

From any on campus phone: dial 5200, enter your extension followed by the # sign and password followed by the # sign.

From any off campus touch tone phone: dial (860) 297-5200 enter your extension followed by the # sign and password followed by the # sign.
