Resetting your password for MaC OS v10.3

Introduction

If you are a Faculty/Staff member who is using a local login to your machine, then these instructions do not apply to you. If you are a Faculty/Staff member who is using your network login to access your machine, that is you are logging into the cmpcntr domain using the same credentials as you use for email and network access, then the following is a tutorial on resetting your password. Those who are running Mac OS X versions 10.3 or earlier and are logging in to their machine with their network login must run a program in order to change their password both for the network and on their computer. The program deletes the master keychain record on your computer, that is it clears the password that the computer has saved. The master keychain is where the operating system stores your password. The computer will then reboot and upon start up will ask you to enter the new master keychain password, this password should match the new network password that you have chosen. If you reset your network password and do not run this script, keychain will retain your old password and you will have trouble logging on to your computer.

E-mail Accounts and Passwords

Both faculty and staff should know their NT account, password, and e-mail address. If you don't already have this info please call the 2100 Help Desk.

Step 2: Resetting your master keychain password

To reset your network keychain, simply download this program that will erase your master keychain record and replace it with a new one, allowing you to reset the saved password in the computer to your new network password. The program can be found at http://www.trincoll.edu/depts/cc/documentation/macpassword/keychain-fixer.app. Once you have downloaded the program, run the program by double clicking on it. You should then be prompted to reboot your computer. After your computer reboots, it will prompt you for a new master keychain password. Reset this password to exactly match the network password that you have just created.
